Author's Notes: I can’t thank nenne and dulcemia enough for their excellent advice, support, and most of all, their cheerleading. This story would be so much poorer and duller without their spit n’ shine. I couldn't ask for better betas. They were brilliant. Also, thank you melusinahp who was nice enough to give very useful advice to tweak it just that little bit more. Finally, thanks to the artists for prettying the story up so nicely! I hope you find the story enjoyable.

This is storytelling at its finest: A unique premise executed well in a fully-realized narrative world. Emotional depth and engrossing action don't compete in this piece, as can sometimes be a pitfall in long fic; instead, they work harmoniously together to deliver what is a thoroughly engaging, I-can't-put-it-down-even-if-my-house-is-on-fire story that we will return to for the pleasure of repeated reads.

It bears such repetition not only for its engrossing plot, but because it's such a rich narrative - the love story that unfolds within the context of the mystery is just as engrossing and well rendered as the gripping plottiness. Watching these two fall in love in the midst of that tableau was a pure joy.

I loved this unique, interesting and ~stimulating~ :D tale when I had the privilege of betaing it, and I love it just as much each time I enjoy it again. The fandom is in your debt!

Oh, you

I am in yourdebt for your amazing beta'ing and cheerleading. I only wish my story could live up to your praise :D

Love the fic. I love how the story flowed between their interaction and the Auror cases. I'm glad Ginny and Harry split up in amiable terms and then finally the round up of the case... of course! someone close to the scene would've snatched the little things to hide something like a cloned body. I had a moment of homunculus...

I dislike the Aurors, especially Carmichael was a piss off. So high and mighty about his self-worth. Overall, lovely read!

I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks so much for reading and commenting so nicely.

Aw, Carmichael was a bit of a wanker, it's true, but it wasn't all his fault ;) (but we all know someone like him, right? *L*)

I really enjoyed this! I loved that he was still close to Ron and Hermione, but their relationship had grown and changed. I loved how much of an oblivious git Harry was with Carmichael and that it wasn't just his partner being an idiot. The genetics stuff was really interesting, too, I like that Draco worked with Katie, bringing the whole group together in a way. The stuff with Harry watching Draco was really hot (loved the reveal at the end). I wasn't sure about Ginny in this, but really like how it worked out in the end and that they became friends again.

Great art as well, the first picture was totally unexpected and freaked me out brilliantly :p

Thanks so much for such a long and thoughtful review :D I'm really glad this story worked for you. Well, I hope this story didn't seem to bash Ginny; I wanted to portray her as a nice person, but with realistic temptations and flaws, who, as much as she is a good person, just wasn't right for Harry.

Isn't all the artwork fantastic? :D Yes, that "monster" is really scary and effective looking, isn't it? snatch_patch is rather amazing!

I'm so glad you liked it :D

Holy cramoly!

How could I have missed this fic?

Thank the Goddesses for dulcemia's rec.

I don't currently have the energy to appropriately laud you with praise for this ingenious, usty, angst-laden, mystery! But, please know this is one of THE best fic I have EVER read!

Wow, I'm so flattered to have such a lovely review! (um...if you think this is the best fic though, I will respectfully tease you by suggesting you haven't been in fandom long ;D ) But really, thanks so much for your praise, it's much appreciated :D

This was wonderful, I enjoyed it so much. Harry wasn't perfect at all, but still loyal and protective to his family. And Draco was so self-centered and yet so mature; they were both awesome.

the genes that code for magic with the eventual idea that the entire wizard genome will be mapped.
I like the scientific aspect of this, and how it was related to magic. That was really interesting.

Harry could practically smell the waft of a dawning crusade permeate her being, all fresh and windy and citrusy.
This line was so...neat! And clean! I have better words, somewhere.

Admittedly, he did have that breath-catching, tingling feeling whenever Charlie was around, but even Arctic Swamp Ghouls had the hots for Charlie.
This is totally my personal head-canon when it comes to Charlie: Everyone Love Charlie, I guess.

“I am so clever!” she crowed cheerfully.
I could take your Hermione and put her in my pocket to keep forever. As a matter of fact, Ron too, for being a true brother. It reminds me of that quote where if you killed someone, a friend would lend you a shovel but a true friend will help you bury the body. It probably doesn't translate well, but when I read about what he did, I thought about that.

But it made him feel that perhaps…just perhaps, if pressed, Draco might just fix cabinets for him.
Oh wow. I just love all the connotation and story in this single line.

To the artists: your works were amazing. I must admit that snatch_patch's 'Monster' made me flinch back when I scrolled down to it, and I may sleep with the light on tonight.

Oh wow, I'm so thrilled to get such a lovely review; thank you! It really helps to know which bits you found most effective, too! I especially appreciate you commenting on the cabinets line, as I'd hoped it would convey exactly what you said!

And yes, aren't the artists amazing? *happy sigh*

Oh, wow. This was so good! The mystery! The romance! I loved the way Harry and Draco's relationship began and progressed, and those sex scenes were smoking hot. :) And oh, god, George. George broke me a little. I'm very glad you left him at a hopeful point.

Awesome story, bb! :)
3rd-Sep-2011 06:15 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much! :D I'm so glad you liked it! (And George!! D: I'm an identical twin myself, so I really wanted to write something that explored even just a little how poor George coped (or didn't) post-war. He will get on, though!)

Thanks so much for the lovely review!

I love this story, you know I do. Since I read the first edition I have been totally in love with it and I think the changes and additions you have made while working on it has made this into a classic. I feel like I know this story inside out now and yet I know I will read it and enjoy it again.

The art was just perfect for the story.

Nenne, you're wonderful. This story wouldn't even have made it to big_bang without you. It's only due to your encouragement that I even did this!

I have many words to say about this fic but the most important ones are: I loved it. I really enjoyed it. It's plotty and well researched and has great characterisations and no easy ways out. It's funny and brilliant and USTy too - basically it's everything I like in a fanfic.
The scientific part was brilliant and I really like the idea that magic is genetic - it's a concept I'm working with in a novel of my own - and I think it's really fascinating how you made it all come together and make sense.
Your Harry was lovely, so flawed and real and still a great character. Draco was great too, he's pretty much exactly how I imagine Draco to have become after the war.

What a lovely review! :D Thanks so much, I'm so pleased you enjoyed it, and I'm really thankful that you took the time to say what worked for you about it, it's a big help. Thank you! :D ♥

Oh I really liked this story! The characterization is great and the plot is very engaging, I think that your idea to introduce genetic side of magic is brilliant, I found it very interesting anyway ... I liked the ending too (knew Draco could see him somehow XD), poor George though, I haven't suspected him but it made sense it was him in the end...
The art is beautiful too :) Harry with his hear slick back is really hot actually, I always thought he would look ridiculous like that, but I thought wrong obviously :D
All in all, love it ♥
12th-Sep-2011 06:01 am (UTC)
Thanks so much for such a lovely review! :D I'm not surprised you guessed Draco could see Harry ;) It was only meant to be a shock for poor Harry, not the reader *L*

The art is wonderful, isn't it? Yes, snatch_patch made Harry with his hair slicked back look amazingly hot!

I'm so glad you liked the story, thanks!
